This course is designed for you if:

  • You are thinking of buying your first digital camera (if you are about to buy a camera read my Camera buyers Guide)

  • Have a digital camera and struggle to move on from auto mode

  • Would like to learn how to edit your photos

  • Join a friendly group with similar interests

  • Just want to take better pictures.

In digital photography we believe that taking the picture and downloading it is only half the story, so we will teach you the basic editing techniques that will allow you to transform your images from average to great and prepare them for uploading to Facebook or Instagram and for printing.

The course focusses on taking pictures rather than technology and you will get to work on a personal project and make a photo book during the course as well as showing your work in a group show to be held in January (see the pictures from our Summer Show)

Subjects that will be covered include:

  • Your camera - what the buttons do and why you need them

  • Downloading and editing you images

  • Composing amazing images

  • Different lenses and when to use them

  • Preparing images to use with Instagram and social media

  • Using Flash

  • Use of studio equipment & lighting - the basics

  • Taking studio portraits - the basics

  • Closeup and macro photography - basic skills

  • Making photo books
