The Landscape Course - 12 Weeks Starting 28th April 2022

The course is aimed at anybody who wants to improve their landscape photography and has the basic skills of using a camera and editing images.

This term will culminate in a public exhibition at the Trinity Arts Gallery in Tunbridge Wells from the 12th to the 17th July

Why landscape photography? Firstly I have been a passionate landscape photographer for most of my adult life and had the privilege of working with Fay Godwin and John Blakemore, two of the UK's most highly regarded landscape photographers in the 1990's. More recently I have spent two years studying contemporary landscape photography as part of my degree course and I want to share my knowledge with other photographers

The course is a mixture of online group sessions and evening photo walks and workshops including:

  • Night photography in London
  • Bluebells and Woodland
  • 1-week public exhibition at the Trinity Arts Gallery in Tunbridge Wells where all course members will have the opportunity to exhibit their work
  • Wildflowers and Orchids
  • Cyanotype printing workshop

The landscape is one of the most popular genres of photography and some of the most iconic photographs ever taken are of the landscape. However, if you scratch the surface, there is much more to landscape photography than just photographing a beautiful sunset. We have all taken landscape photographs, we seem drawn to record these picturesque, and not so picturesque, views but why? What do the pictures we make say about us? What thoughts are behind the images? What are we trying to convey?

In this masterclass, I will be working with a small group, who want to take gain a deeper knowledge of landscape photography.

I want to:

  • Help you to develop a body of work that is unique to you,
  • Help you discover the photographer within yourself and your photographic style.

During the Thursday evening sessions, I will teach you landscape photography skills. Equally important will be the time that we spend looking at the work of inspirational landscape photographers who have taken, often very different, approaches to the subject.

At the end of each session, I will set an optional task to reinforce the evening’s discussions. We will discuss the images that you submit in the following session.

I will encourage you to read and research the areas of landscape photography that interest you.

If you sign up for the course you will be entitled to a 50% discount on up to 3 of my 1-day landscape workshops, worth £130.

At the end of the course, you will get a one-to-one session with me to review the work that you have done and to discuss your next steps.

All of the teaching sessions will be recorded so that you can refer back to them during and after the course.
